Running Update

Sunday 7/20 - Ran 4 miles with an 11:45 average pace. Still doing 1 mile / 2 minute intervals. Felt really good despite the heat. I keep blaming the bad days on the heat but I'm starting to think it truly has nothing to do with it. Kate, you suggested last week running in the evening to avoid the heat and I usually don't for several reasons....1) If I'm not out the door by 6 it's just not happening. Once I eat dinner the couch starts looking way too inviting. And once my butt hits that cushion....it ain't move'n! I'm lazy like that =) 2) I'm a paranoid freak...I don't like running in the dark. 3) I have a hard time sleeping when I run that late. So I have to run in the heat. Oh well.

Monday 7/21 - Ran 7 with 11:27 average pace!!!! I think that's my best pace yet!

Wednesday 7/23 - Ran 7 miles. with 11:22 average pace!! I'm feeling stronger with each run. Ran 2 miles walked 2 minutes. I downloaded the audiobook The Shack onto my ipod and listened to it while I ran. I haven't had the time lately to get through a book. I've been trying to get through Derailed for the last 2 weeks or so and am only 1/2 way through it. I only have time enough to read a chapter at a time. It's very frustrating for me cuz I'm loving the book. But duty always calls. And by the time night comes and my butt finally makes it to the cushion of my couch I can barely keep my eyes open let alone focus on the plot of any book. I find myself reading and rereading the same paragraph trying to focus on what I've just read because my mind is swimming with the following days' to-do list. Running to Audiobooks is a fantastic way to not only empty my mind from all that clutter but also to take my mind off my body's whimpers for mercy! I finished my run to a breathtaking sunset (see below...I just happened to have my camera with me).....yep, that's right, I ran at night!

Friday 7/25 - Traci and I ran 14 miles today! Finished with an 11:24 average pace. That's our best long run average yet. The improvements seem to be coming by leaps and bounds now. Maybe that "better than 5 hour" marathon goal isn't so out of reach after all! Today's run felt Ok until the last 3 miles...I was suffering! Thank God I had Traci to run with because without her there is little doubt I would have crawled back on hands and knees.

Wow, That's great Tammy! Which marathon are you training for? Also, what song is playing in the background? It's awesome,

Man Tammy! That's AWESOME! How do you go from 7 miles to 14 without wanting to die? I can't fathom it. By the way. Karen Miller (www.cheerioroad.blogspot.com) is training for the same race. I think it might be her first one. She is the author of Momma Zen. I think it's the one in Chicago. Swing by and say hi!

I can only be in awe.

I don't know how you do it! I really don't enjoy running. Brisk walking is fine, but running? No thank you.

Anyways, I am impressed. You are my hero.

You so rock. Way to go! Not the running kind of gal here, I'll be sitting in the back with my Snickers if you need me for anything.
