But I digress....
It was recently brought to my attention by a fellow parent/neighbor/friend (the parent of my son's best friend) that this handsome and charming child of mine is apparently the "it" boy in all of 6th grade. The one that all the girls are dreamily swooning over.
I've seen the signs but chose to ignore them.
One day at a park I watched as he was approached by a boy in a younger grade at his school. This child approached my son with a dim witted grin and a star struck gaze...."are you Hefty?"....."yeah"...."as in Hefty SMURF?"......"um, yeah"....and the child ran off giggling....Hefty Smurf then looked at me and shrugged his shoulders and shook his head as if to say "kids these days."
He recently was called (we weren't home) by a girl who was hoping to invite him to a pool party with other girls. I was informed by a parent that these girls were prepping themselves with lemon juice (for their hair), ridiculous amounts of makeup, and bikinis that would have made Pamela Anderson blush. These girls have just finished 5th grade folks. I'm talking 11 years old.
My SIL was recently teasing my son about my niece's friend who has a big crush on HS. She came to our house with my niece for our New Years Eve party and was apparently commenting on HS's...physique. It makes me uncomfortable. He's 11! He's a child. QUIT IT! I don't like all this talk and teasing from my adult family about boyfriends and girlfriends and dating....he's a CHILD! So I jokingly said (but wasn't really joking) - "HS, your only eleven years old....relax....you're too young to be talking about girlfriends" to which he jokingly replied "WHAT!...I can't help it if I'm buff and good looking!"
This is the same child that still has arm pit fart contests and still cherishes his favorite toy....the fart master machine.
I recently approached my son when I saw his nasty unbrushed teeth caked full of food and grime and said "Hefty Smurf! Go brush those nasty teeth! What girl is gonna want to kiss that nasty mouth!"
I know, I know....that statement automatically disqualifies me from this year's mother of the year award. Believe me...the second it came out of my mouth I regretted it....but I sometimes open my mouth before engaging my brain.
That CHILD.....this 11 year old CHILD of mine replied by smugly saying "I already KNOW a girl that wants to kiss this mouth!"
Oh dear God help me. Help me keep this child a child for just a little while longer. He's in such a hurry to grow up and it is scaring the hell out of me.

Ha ha ha ha ha...I'm still laughing about the kid in the park. "THE" Justin Hopgood?!? Like what, is he a CELBRITY or something? How funny to remember that we were probably the same way at the same age. :O)
And "buff"? No offense intended, but am I right in guessing he's a skinny little thing?
Do you really want to get me started on how appalling I think it is that kids are only kids for about three years anymore? how when I went clothes shopping for my daughter when she was the same age (11) I started seeing THONGS in the little girl pnaty section? Or should I stop there and just say that if YOU are not up for mother of the year award with your comment about his teeth, I am so sunk-not even in the running. Because I have told Lei that he flat-out stinks and no one will want to get close to him. Ah, well.
All your kids are good looking. It isn't going to stop with Justin. Best to prepare yourself. It's only just begun...
Thanks for stopping by!
Your son and my oldest daughter, Sylvia, are around the same age. Her physical signs of adolesence are scaring the CRAP out of me. Luckily, she still acts like a little kid most of the time, and doesn't seem too happy about the changes, either.
Sounds like your son is kind of the same way. He'll be fine.
You are scaring me. Em is close to 11 and I don't want her even thinking about buys!! Good luck with this and keep us updated.
He was a cute baby! This is happening with my neice and nephew they are both 11. I am shocked by some of the stuff and they all look so much older then there age. I hope you can keep him young when everybody around is tryingto make kids grown ups.
Tammy, Mel is going on 11 years old and like you, I AM NOT READY!!! What am I gonna do when some little girl calls the house?! I freak out just thinking about him EVER having a girlfriend!!!
Please help us Jesus!!!
Oh no! 11 is WAY too early!
Luckily, my son will never be allowed to meet a girl. So i won't have this problem.
Good luck!
Tammy, I agree with Kristin. ALL of your children are gorgeous little things. So lock the doors!!! It's scary how quickly they grow up. I'm still in shock that the little boy I met at 6, is turning 15 in November! He and his cell phone are one. And the girls call him non-stop. Um, scary. Good luck, and keep us updated. ;)
Oh yeah... meant to add, LOVE the baby photo!
Your little boy sounds like he is going to be a stud muffin!
hahaha! I always giggle at newborn photos . . . because, I'm sorry, there is not one newborn baby on this earth that is cute. Not mine, not yours, not anyone's! Considering what they've just been through, they turn out pretty well ;-)
I dread the day my son enters the world of multi-gender interaction. He's so sensitive . . . some little girl is gonna break his heart . . . and then I'll have to "take care of it" ;-)
He is so so cute though
LOL... it only gets worse. I have a friend whose absolutely adorable son is being stalked by girls two and THREE years older than his 15 year old self. Whooo...kids today, they grow up TOO fast.
My son is only 5 and there is a girl in his preschool summer camp who thinks he's "the one". I just laugh it off and he blushes.
I SO know what you mean! My nephew is 11 years old, and I take care of his two little sisters during the week, so unfortunately for me I am privy to a lot of heart-stopping conversations between him and his little 11-year-old buddies when they think no real grown-ups are listening. (Apparently I don't count as an adult, or maybe he thinks I'm too busy taking care of the girls to notice him?) They talk about their girlfriends and their EXES! These eleven-year-olds have EXES! Its so weird...
I really think they're still just kids though, trying to act bigger than they really are, you know?
He sounds so cute!! My Little Billy is 11 also and quite the lady killer himself - they are a lot of fun, but we need to keep ours eyes open and watch out for those boys!
Take care - Kellan
OMG... that is too cute..I think you're in for trouble in the teenage years... Hang in there.. Hopefully he'll stay your baby for a little while longer (even though he'll be your baby forver)
Seriously.
THAT picture rocks.
Geez, 11 does sound early to be wearing makeup and little bikinis for a boy but when they are as handsome as yours, what can you do?
Ha..very good!
Oh my! Moments like this I am thankful I am not a mommy yet. I still worry about my niece and nephew. Bikinis at 11...Um, NOPE! Hang tight to those kiddos for now!!
Thanks for the advice on twitter....so far no one has told me to stay away from the delivery room and I guess there is no way to make this process easy...still praying...THANKS!
Well...he definitely was a cute baby. Who could blame the girls now. love his line though, he knows a girl that wants to kiss that his mouth. OMGoodness, I do not know what i would have said.
sounds like you are going to have a heartbreaker on your hands.
I just spent the last few days with my best friend's kids --the oldest being 11 -- and I am in shock how they act!!! It is insane to me. LOL! Her precious one told her mom to park in the back of the building when we picked her up from cheer camp because her mom's car is not a cool car and she didn't want to be seen with it!!! And of course, she already has a boyfriend, has to be dressed perfectly all the time,--make-up and all!!!!
I really only have 8 years til I have to deal with all that craziness. I was hoping I'd be able to keep it all at bay til he was 14!
Love that he can't help it if he is buff and good looking!
That hospital pic ROCKS!!
And his response to you made me laugh OUT LOUD!!! Please say he is really 21 and not 11...I can't imagine going through that in only 7 years!!!
qexizidgTHAT is HILARIOUS!
